The Hawaii Island Landscape Association, the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service, along with the Aloha Arborist Association and Western Chapter-International Society of Arboriculture will host a “Tree Care Safety Workshop” on May 23.
The Hawaii Island Landscape Association, the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service, along with the Aloha Arborist Association and Western Chapter-International Society of Arboriculture will host a “Tree Care Safety Workshop” on May 23.
Featured speaker John Ball is a professor of forestry at South Dakota State University, where he instructs courses in arboriculture and forestry. Ball has conducted research in a wide range of arboricultural subjects, including tree worker performance and safety.
Topics covered in the all-day workshop will include an overview of fatal and nonfatal incidents in the tree care industry, the use of the Haddox Matrix in tree worker incidents, the two biggest factors in making tree work safe and productive, working around electrical conductors, and emergency response.
Continuing education units (CEU) will be available for certified arborists (6) and utility specialists (3).
The workshop is slated for 8 a.m.-3:45 p.m. at the Queen’s Marketplace, Waikoloa Beach Resort. Cost for the workshop is $80 for members of the sponsoring associations and $110 for nonmembers prior to the early registration deadline of Tuesday.
Regular registration fees after that date are $105 for members and $130 for nonmembers. Lunch is included.
